Features

A music player that gets out of the way.

Everything you need to listen, nothing you didn't ask for.

Ad-free streaming

Play what YouTube has, straight from the source, without ads or interruptions between songs.

Real offline downloads

Pick a quality, download a song or a whole playlist, and every playlist gets its own folder.

Synced lyrics

Timed lines highlight as the song plays. Lyrics are fetched automatically and saved with your downloads.

Queue, repeat, sleep timer

See every upcoming song, jump anywhere in the queue, loop one or all, and stop after 15–60 minutes.

No account, no tracking

No sign-in, analytics or crash reporting. Library, history and playlists live in a local database.

Start radio & daily mix

Turn any song into a related queue, or let the daily mix build itself from the artists you actually play.

Downloads

Every build, hosted here.

Direct APK downloads with checksums. No shorteners, no mirrors, no accounts.

  • Fetch missing fills in lyrics for songs you already downloaded, without downloading the audio again.
  • Songs that already have an .lrc beside them are skipped, so your own files are never overwritten.
  • Progress and a saved / not found summary appear right in the Downloads tab.

Install

Three taps and you're listening.

FreeTune is sideloaded — it is not distributed through Google Play.

  1. 01

    Download the APK

Grab the latest build above (2.9 MB). Any version works; newer builds include the bug fixes.

  2. 02

    Allow the install

Android asks permission to install from your browser or file manager. That warning is normal for sideloaded apps.

  3. 03

    Open and grant notifications

Notification access keeps playback controls on the lock screen and in the shade. Everything else is optional.

Prefer the terminal?

Install or upgrade over USB without touching the file manager.

adb install -r FreeTune-0.8.4.apk
FAQ

The honest answers.

Is FreeTune on Google Play?

No. FreeTune is distributed as a signed APK from this site and GitHub Releases. Play Store policy and the app's extraction model don't mix, so sideloading is the only supported path.

Is downloading from YouTube legal?

FreeTune is an unofficial client. Downloading audio may violate YouTube's Terms of Service and copyright law depending on the content and where you live. Keep downloads for personal use and respect the rights of the people who made the music.

Does it need Google Play Services?

No. FreeTune runs on plain Android 8.0+ and does not use Play Services, Firebase or any Google SDK.

Why does Android warn me about the APK?

Because it wasn't installed from the Play Store. Builds are signed with a consistent release key, so updates install cleanly over older versions. You can verify any download against the SHA-256 shown above.

Where do downloads go?

Into the app-specific Music folder, Android/data/com.freetune.app/files/Music/FreeTune/, with a subfolder per playlist. Other players may not index that folder, but FreeTune plays everything in it offline.

Will updating wipe my library?

No. Installing a newer APK keeps your playlists, likes, history and downloads. Uninstalling the app removes its data, so update instead of reinstalling.

Where do lyrics come from?

From LRCLIB, a free and open lyrics database. FreeTune looks songs up by artist, title and duration, caches the result, and saves a matching .lrc beside every download. If a song isn't there, you can pair your own .lrc file in the player.

Does it work offline?

Downloaded songs play fully offline, lyrics included. Streaming, autoplay and online lyrics need a connection; autoplay simply stops at the end of your downloaded queue.
